16-Year-Old Boy Killed in Buckeye Car Accident

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports that teen fatalities and injuries due to car accidents have decreased in 2010 compared to previous years. Out of the total fatalities in Arizona, victims age 19 and below accounted for 76 deaths, while 45 of the fatalities were teens ages 15- to 19-years old.

We are very sad to report that on Wednesday night, October 8, 2011, a 16-year old teen died after falling out of a moving Toyota truck. According to AZ Central, the Arizona passenger accident happened on Citrus Road while the four-door pickup truck was traveling southbound.

What May Have Caused This Fatal Injury Accident?

Based on reports by AZ Central, seven high school students were traveling southbound on Citrus Road when the 16-year-old boy started jumping up and down while the vehicle was moving. The driver of the truck pulled over to stop the boy from jumping but the teenager fell out of the vehicle.

Maricopa police does not believe that either alcohol or drugs were factors of the incident.

We send our deepest condolences to the family of the boy. Many people might think this type of accident is a fluke but many teens and small children are hurt this way when traveling in a vehicle. Just recently a small child fell out the window of a car while he was traveling with his mother and siblings in the back seat. Again, our thoughts and prayers go out to any family who has experienced a fatality like this one.

Arizona Car Accident Statistics

Arizona is infamous when it comes to its number of car crashes. However, over the past few years motor vehicle crashes in the state have slightly declined. According to ADOT, there was a -5.46% change in terms of the total fatalities in 2010, while crash-related injuries have declined to 50,110 which is equivalent to -1.31% change.

However, in Buckeye where the incident occurred, an increase in both fatalities and crash-related injuries has been reported. The county had 5 deaths and 185 injured people in 2010 compared to 3 deaths and 174 injured people in 2009.
