Mesa Woman Accused of DUI and Fleeing Police
Driving under the influence or otherwise known as DUI is a criminal offense in most countries. The degree of penalty varies among jurisdictions, however. Some may set limits as to BAC of .08% and some even lower than that. Even a .02 BAC can get one arrested. The number of deaths due to DUI is alarmingly high but it has gradually decreased in 2009. From a record of 11,773 in 2008, it has fallen to 11,769 in 2009.
In recent news, a 32-year-old woman was arrested after she rear-ended an on-duty police officer and tried to flee the scene (AZCentral 09/08/2011). She was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI Wednesday afternoon after the accident near Dobson and Baseline roads. It was noted that the woman had a glazed look to her, was unable to roll down her window and was also slow to respond to anything the police asked. She was said to have driven off after police asked her to pullover. Police caught up with her just one eighth of a mile from the collision. The woman confessed to taking Xanax and Lorazepam but denied having consumed alcohol. She refused to take field tests and she was confrontational. She was also arrested last 2008 on suspicion of DUI.
Drunk driving can injure anyone in the way, or worse, it can kill. Do not drink and drive. It’s not worth the time in jail and not worth the cost of court fees and civil penalties.
