Driver Suspected Drug Impairment Hits a Bicyclist in Phoenix

According to the National Highway traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) based on the 2009 research there were a total of 630 bicyclists killed and 51,000 injured due to a bicycle accident. It was also shown that bicyclist’s deaths make up 2 percent of all motor vehicle accidents.

ABC 15 reported that a woman was arrested after hitting a bicyclist and a tree in Phoenix last Saturday. The 65 year old woman was traveling southbound on Cave Creek Road. That was between Pinnacle Peak and Jomax, as when she drove on the right shoulder of the road she hit a 52-year-old man riding his bicycle. Right after the accident the woman drove over the raised median and ended up hitting a tree. According to the detectives, the woman driving the car was under the influence of drugs. She was booked Saturday for Aggravated Assault, on the other hand the victim was not in fatal condition and was stated stable as of Sunday morning.

This accident was very misfortunate and could have been prevented. It is illegal to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, doing so puts others lives in danger.
