Vehicle Slams into Glendale House

Some people have medications that they need to take on a daily basis. However, there are some medications whose effect is to make a person drowsy, and this may be dangerous for someone that chooses to drive after taking the medication. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2.5% of the fatalities in 2009 in U.S. roadways were reported to involve drowsy driving.

Related to this fact, AZCentral reports that a man rammed his truck into a house near 63rd Avenue and West Mountain View Road in Glendale. Police say that at around 11 o' clock AM, the man lost control of his truck which resulted in his collision with the front of a house. Luckily the house was unoccupied during the incident. The man reportedly gained some minor injuries and has been treated at the hospital. Police are investigating impairment in the crash, however, it was also possible that the accident was caused by the medication that the man was taking.

Drowsy driving increases the risk of hurting yourself and others. Therefore, when taking medications that may make a person drowsy, avoid driving and instead take other means of transportation. It is also important to get enough sleep at night before driving in the morning, so as not to experience fatigue, which will also result to drowsiness while driving.

Always Look Ahead When Riding

Motorcycle crashes are becoming very common in the United States as more bikes are on the road. Motorcycle crashes are due to several factors including low visibility and stability as compared to cars. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, motorcycle crashes accounted for about 13% of the total number of motor vehicle deaths in 2009.

In the State of Arizona, where there is no Universal Helmet law, motorcycle crashes accounted for 2.77% of the total number of crashes in 2009.

Before riding a motorcycle, practicing is a must. One of the ways that riders are taught to ride in class is to ride in small circles and figures of 8 with the use of cones. This teaches the motorcyclist to brake, turn, swerve and look ahead. When a motorcyclist looks further ahead of him, it will be easier for him to avoid accidents because it will give him time to decide on a safety action. Motorcycle safety in Arizona involves always looking ahead and being prepared

Of course, to do the above, one must be able to protect the eyes by wearing a clean visor, sunglasses, or yellow glasses in the dark or in a mist.

Phoenix Teen Struck by Vehicle While Outside Store

Walking or even just merely standing on a sidewalk may look and feel safe since sidewalks are designated areas for pedestrians. However, data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say that pedestrian deaths accounted for 12% of all traffic fatalities, while injuries accounted for 3%. On average, a pedestrian is killed in a motor vehicle crash every 128 minutes, and one is injured every 9 minutes.

In Phoenix, a teen was struck by a vehicle while he was standing outside of a convenience store (ABC15 07/08/2011). The Fire Department spokesperson from Phoenix said that the 17-year-old male was standing at a video rental box when a vehicle struck the teen after jumping off a curb. Police say that the teen did not have any life threatening injuries. ABC15 did not have news yet about how the Phoenix pedestrian accident happened and whether the driver remained on the scene.

The sidewalk is a place for pedestrians. However, traffic data has reported sidewalks are also a place where accidents happen. So when in a sidewalk in Arizona, pedestrians should always watch out for themselves and be cautious of oncoming cars. If possible, stand in a well-lit area to be seen by the drivers more easily.

When driving in Arizona, especially when it is night time, drivers should avoid alcohol and distractions. Another thing to avoid is driving while fatigued, or taking medications which may cause the driver to be drowsy.

Car Crashes into Avondale Canal

Whenever it is raining, the chances of accidents are higher due to the wet roads, which tend to be slippery. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, traffic crashes are the world’s leading cause of death between 15-29 year olds. .

A woman is safe after a car accident, in which she accidently drove into the Avondale Canal. (ABC15 07/11/2011). The road was still wet with rain when the woman attempted to make a turn from Indian School Road to 99th Avenue, but she lost control of the car, and ended up in the canal. The woman was the only occupant of the car. A passerby reportedly helped the woman out of her car and to safety.

To prevent car crashes in Arizona, especially when the road is slick with rain, it is important to take extra precautions, and know that drivers need to be more alert. One of the best things to do to when driving in rainy conditions is to slow down since it takes longer to stop or adjust when driving in wet weather. Cars should also maintain a proper distance from the next car while driving; such distance should be increased in wet weather. And of course, remember to buckle up at all times as protection in the case that the car may lose control.

2 Hurt in Gilbert Motorcycle Rear-End Collision

While motorcycling has increased in the past few years, the number of motorcycle-related accidents, despite the warnings, still continue to occur. The problem usually stems from either impaired drivers or distracted drivers. In 2009, 4,462 motorcyclists were killed and an additional 90,000 motorcyclists were injured, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the same year, 43% of fatally injured motorcycle riders and 57% of fatally injured motorcycle passengers were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

In Gilbert, Arizona, 2 people were injured in a motorcycle crash (ABC15 07/16/2011). The injured motorcycle riders were a 44-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl, who both sustained serious injuries, but were not life-threatening. Police say that the motorcycle was rear-ended by a vehicle, which was why the motorcyclist lost control and the bike fell down before sliding on the ground. The man was not wearing a helmet; only the girl was wearing a helmet. Both were sent to the hospital. Police say the woman left the scene but was later caught. Police say that impairment was a factor in the crash.

Phoenix Car Crash Critically Injures 7-Month-Old Baby

Unintentional injury is the number one killer of children ages 1 – 14 years of age. One of its leading causes of injury or death is a motor vehicle accident. Children, ages four and below are at greater risk since they are most vulnerable to physical injury. It approximately accounts for an alarming half of all unintentional injuries or deaths. The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) reported an estimate of 1,770 child fatalities in 2009 alone. It translates to a rate of 2.34 per 100,000 children in general. The rate of injury and death has been increasing over the past few years.

In recent news, a 7-month old baby girl was in extremely critical condition after a two-vehicle car accident in Phoenix, 2 p.m., Friday, reports ABC15. The mother was arrested and was found out to have other charges such as: one count of aggravated assault, two counts of endangerment, and one count of child abuse. The infant wasn’t properly restrained in an Arizona child safety seat seat causing her critical condition. The mother is said to have a total of nine children, eight of which have all been taken by Child Protective Services (CPS).

Instead of the parent protecting his/her child, what happened is that the parent was the one who caused this misfortune. When addressing this issue, prevention should be a priority.

Wilcox Rollover Kills Teen, Injures 3 More

A car accident happened in Wilcox which resulted into the death of a 16-year-old girl and sent all three passengers to a local hospital (KPHO 05/31/2011).

According to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, the 16-year-old girl was driving a four door 1997 Chevrolet when she lost control on a dirt road causing it to roll over.

The girl and one passenger, a 15-year-old boy, were ejected from the car while two other teens were trapped inside as the car rolled at least once.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the three others were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Teen drivers are at a high risk of ending up in a fatal crash. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), motor vehicle crashes tops the causes of death in teens in the U.S. Moreover, 8 teens between the age of 16 and 19 died from car accidents each day in 2009. Per mile driven, drivers in the same age group are four times more likely to crash than older drivers.

CDC adds that in order to help prevent teen drivers from ending up in fatal crashes, many reports suggest that most comprehensive graduated drivers licensing (GDL) programs have been effective in reducing fatal and injury crash involvement of 16 year old drivers by 38 and 40 percent respectively.

Two Car accidents Occur in Anthem

Traumatic experience following a car accident can be felt by victims of car crashes. Aside from the physical injuries that they can sustain, mental pressure can also become a burden for them. Other symptoms may just go away in a matter of days or weeks, but other may last a lifetime. According to NHTSA, in 2009, almost 6 million car crashes reported in United States in which 30,000 were fatal; and left 2 million people injured. About 31% of fatalities were cause by over speeding.

Two reported car crash happened on both sides of Anthem. In Southbound, a single-car crash took one life and just a matter of 25 minutes another car crash happened on the northbound side.

The first crash happened at about 1pm last Sunday afternoon according to Daisy Mountain Fire Department spokesperson. A convertible car was travelling at a high rate of speed when suddenly it lost control and traveled away from the road at about 150 yards from the Anthem Way Bridge.

When the firefighter arrived at the scene, the car was already fully covered with flames after it ignited following the rollover. This was also the reason why they haven’t saved the driver of the car.

The accident led the authorities to close the southbound lane near the Anthem Way exit temporarily, which resulted to heavy traffic.

Just after 25 minutes, another case of rollover happened on the other side. One car bumped on another car on northbound I-17 luckily no one was hurt and traffic was not affected.

Every year, many people and families have been devastated by fatal car crashes. This can be prevented if only all road users must practice defensive driving. Always wear protective gadgets like seatbelts and restrains. Pay attention to the road and avoid distractions as much as possible.

Tempe Road Blocked by Two Separate Car Crashes

Fatal car accidents are not only the top cause of mortality and morbidity among people, but also the main reason for biggest lost and damage in properties. According to NHTSA, in 2009 5.5 million car accidents have been reported in United States. The severity of a crash depends on several factors. Factors include negotiating a curve, turning into an intersection and stopping at a traffic light.

In addition to that, some accidents may happen even at the same time or same place. Just like what happened in U.S. 60 in Tempe.

At about 7:14 in the morning, two lanes of U.S. 60 near Rural Road exit were blocked by a three-vehicle traffic crash in Arizona.

Then an hour later, another car accident took place. Two vehicles travelling the same road were accountable on the car crash according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The collision has been moved off to the left side but the HOV lane was blocked by an ambulance that catered to minor injuries.

These instances may happen any time, to anyone and anywhere. We never know where these fatal car crashes may happen. The best advice to all road users is to practice defensive driving, avoid distractions and pay attention particularly to other road vehicles and road signs.

Accidents are inevitable, but if you have experienced such accident and you are seeking for help, just give our Arizona car accident lawyers a call at (602) 457-6222, or (480) 389-2463 and we’ll give you free consultation.

Police Investigate Phoenix Crash and Homicide

Gunshots were heard near 17th Street and Southern Avenue in South Phoenix which then resulted into a car crash Tuesday evening (AZ Family 04/26/2011).

According to witnesses, two pickup truck drivers were heading east on Southern avenue when the shooting occurred. The victim then crashed into another vehicle following the incident.

There is no further information is available yet as to the motives behind the shooting or if authorities have a suspect in custody.

This adds to the hundreds of roadway fatalities the state witnesses each year which mostly are a result of fatal accidents. From 2005 – 2009, Arizona has had 5,288 recorded deaths from fatal crashes with an annual average of 1,058 deaths for the five-year period (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

The story above is quite unusual compared to the roadway fatalities that the NHTSA records, and contributes to the rising concern regarding public road safety – something the authorities have been working on to improve.

Every year at least 30 thousand Americans are killed because of fatal crashes. To help prevent roadway fatalities, authorities ask for cooperation from the public by following traffic laws, avoiding bad driving behavior such as speeding and alcohol consumption, and by showing respect to other people on the road.

If a loved one has been killed in an Arizona car accident and you are interested in receiving compensation our dedicated car accident wrongful death lawyers in Phoenix are available for a free consultation at (480) 389-2463.

Multiple People Hurt in Arizona I-10 Rollover

A rollover crash in Arizona was reported along Interstate 10 at night leaving several people injured (AZ Central 06/26/2011). According to a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the car accident happened around 6:50 p.m. near 19th avenue.

Multiple people were hurt in the two-vehicle crash but no information yet regarding the exact number of victims and the degree of injuries caused by the rollover.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

With the high fatality rate of rollover crashes, it is still fortunate that no one died in the accident. While no factors were determined yet that caused the rollover, it is highly possible that speeding was involved. According to Safercar.gov, around 40 percent of fatal rollover crashes were associated with excessive speeding.

Furthermore, certain types such as taller and narrow vehicles are more susceptible to rollovers compared to others. These include light trucks such as SUVs, pickups, and vans.

To minimize the risk of rollover accidents, drivers are advised to follow proper speed limits. Also, it has been observed that using safety restraints decreases the chances of being killed in a rollover by 75 percent.

Another important thing to note is to avoid alcohol when driving. Alcohol and driving just don’t mix well and has been a large factor in fatal accidents all over the world.

If you have been a victim of an Arizona rollover accident and are seeking for compensation related to an injury, don’t hesitate to call us for a free consultation at (480) 389-2463. One of our rollover accident lawyers in Phoenix will be ready to take your call.

Bullhead City Woman Dies after Car Drives into Colorado River

Driving is a privilege that almost anyone of legal age can enjoy. It gives a feeling of freedom, competence and control. Being able to drive will take a person to destinations where he or she needs or wants to be. Driving is also a complex skill. All senses must be alert when driving, and having any problems physically, emotionally or psychologically, will affect the ability to drive safely.

In Bullhead City, a car unintentionally drove into the Colorado River, taking the life of its driver, a 21-year-old pregnant woman (TucsonCitizen 4/21/2011). It took a while for the emergency divers to rescue the woman’s body from the submerged car due to the strong currents in the river. Davis Dam operators had to cut down the water flow in order to assist with the rescue efforts. The divers were finally able to retrieve the woman’s body when the currents slowed. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim’s family reported that she suffered from seizures, and was probably having an episode when the accident occurred.

Having seizures can cause a person to lose control of the body. It could change the way a person acts and sense things, it could also cause a person to lose consciousness. If a person has been diagnosed with having seizures, it is wise to avoid driving and instead, consider rides with family and friends, taking cabs, shuttle buses or vans, public buses, trains and subways, and walking.

Phoenix Police Identify Hit and Run Taxi Driver

Every day, there are people who are treated in different emergency departments all across the globe. In the United States alone, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are more than 2.3 million adult drivers and passengers who were treated in emergency departments as a result of being injured in a motor vehicle crash in 2009. Within this number of people, there are different reasons why these accidents happen.

In Phoenix, police were finally able to identify the taxi cab driver who ran over a man before fleeing from the scene, based on an ABC15 report. The suspect was a 41-year-old man who was said to have had a verbal argument with the 45-year-old victim at a Circle K convenient store at 15th Avenue and Indian School Road around 3 p.m. just before the incident.

Witnesses reported that the argument continued even as driver entered his vehicle when he accelerated and then ran over the man. The 45-year-old man is currently at the hospital and in critical condition.

Police say that the accident was intentional. This is a dangerous act which resulted in a fatality to a pedestrian.

As a pedestrian in Arizona, be responsible and always watch the road for oncoming cars. Be sure to walk on the sidewalk and cross at designated crosswalks to avoid accidents. When crossing the road or perhaps a large parking lot, be aware of oncoming cars which may be pulling out of parking or driving around the lot.

Woman and Toddler Struck While Crossing Phoenix Street

Every day, people are brought into emergency departments due to motor vehicle accidents. A number of these people are pedestrians who were simply unlucky enough to be on the streets at the wrong time. According to 2009 statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say that on average, a pedestrian was killed every two hours, and 1 was injured every nine minutes in traffic crashes.

In recent news, a woman and a toddler were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street, reports AZCentral. The Phoenix pedestrian injury accident happened near Indian School Road and Interstate 17 at about 9:45 pm. The woman was 27 years old and the toddler, 2; witnesses say that the woman flew through the air. Both mother and the toddler were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A third person at the scene was treated for minor injuries.

When crossing a street in Arizona, always assume that drivers may not stop. Crosswalks do not always guarantee the safety of a pedestrian. Therefore, when crossing one, always make sure that all the cars are stopped. Also, while a street may seem clear, always anticipate that a vehicle may unexpectedly appear. When crossing in intersections, a pedestrian should scan his back just in case a vehicle turns from another street. There are some drivers who are not able to see pedestrians before crossing an intersection. These techniques for crossing should also be taught to children.
